This might sound weird considering the obvious, but I just discovered I’m a girl. Not just any girl, a girly- girl and that’s shocking.
It all began the day I noticed my brother’s toothbrush looked like it had been crushed by a truck, and offered him a spare. In disgust he said, “eww how do you expect me to use a pink toothbrush?”
In reality I hadn’t even been aware my toothbrush was pink. Personally if I had my way, I wouldn’t wear a pink dress for any reason in the world. I detest that color.
Then I began taking inventory of my stuff. Turns out all personal effect (ranging from toothbrushes to lingeries) were in supposed hateful colors–pink, red, purple, sky blue etc. While everything visible to the world were earth tones–black, grey, navy blue, brown.
Purchased this hair band last year because the colours were eye catching. It’s never been used though.
Once I came across a quote that said a person’s true self is that which they hide from the world. I disputed that on the grounds that each man had a choice to be whomever they wanted. I still take that stance, but in the wake of this, I’m willing to accept the writer might be on to something.
More recently I came upon these:
*”The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”― C.G. Jung
*”The most common form of despair is not being who you are.”– Søren Kierkegaard
*“You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.”― Thomas Merton
Perhaps the universe is saying something here?
I know this new revelation might not seem very significant, but it makes me curious.
~What is the depth of a person?
~What aspects of ourselves have been buried under layers of non-conformity, uniformity and fear?
~What are the chances we’ve been living a lie?
~How much of us has been right there with us in our subconscious, while our conscious being puts on a charade for the world?
~What’s left to be uncovered?
I’m a girly-girl with a love for purple and pink and pretty things. When I see a critter, my first instinct is to shriek and hop on a higher surface. But I wonder how much of the earth colour girl is me, despite being armed with the understanding that we are a whole person composed of diverse and sometimes seemingly contradicting components.
Have you been able to uncover anything about yourself of late?
