For by grace you have been saved through faith—Ephesians 2:8a
As the day draws to an end, I am again swamped by the boundless, encompassing love the Father has shown to me, the world, in his son Jesus Christ.
I have been unworthy and in Him been found worthy of death–death on the cross.
I have been found wanting and in Him received far exceeding all I could imagine.
I have been filled with hate, resentment, yet in him I found patience, forgiveness, peace.
I am a new being because he has made me so.
Christ is risen and in Him is our perfection– stainless, sinless and blessed with an abiding grace. What manner of love is this?
I’d like to share one of my favourite hymns.
Love Divine All Loves Excelling
Love Divine, all love excelling,
Joy of heav’n, to earth come down;
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling,
All Thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion;
Pure, unbounded love Thou art;
Visit us with Thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart.
Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit
Into every troubled breast;
Let us all in Thee inherit,
Let us find the promised rest.
Take away the love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.
Come, Almighty, to deliver,
Let us all Thy grace receive;
May Thy presence e’er be with us,
Never more Thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
Pray, and praise Thee without ceasing,
Glory in Thy perfect love.
Finish, then, Thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see Thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in Thee;
Changed from glory into glory
Till with Thee we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Lost in wonder, love and praise.
God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.—Romans 5:8
